2. Discovering Sur — The Foundation of Melody
Explore the concept of Sur (pitch) and develop a deeper awareness of:

Pitch and tunefulness

Listening and reproducing notes accurately

Finding stability in one’s voice

Developing a stronger relationship with the Tanpura
3. Entering the World of Raga
Discover an afternoon raga through an experiential approach.
Participants will explore:

The characteristic notes of the raga

Its melodic movement
-
Important phrases and points of repose
-
How a raga creates its own musical atmosphere
-
How notes relate to one another to create the unique “chemistry” of a raga
Rather than simply learning a scale, participants will experience how a raga becomes a living musical form.
4. Introduction to Improvisation
Learn the foundations of Indian classical improvisation through simple guided exercises.
Participants will discover how to:

Create musical phrases spontaneously

Develop an idea from a single note or phrase

Listen and respond while singing

Move beyond memorised melodies

Develop musical confidence and freedom
5. Learning a Traditional Composition
Learn a Dhrupad composition based on the raga explored during the workshop.
Participants will work with:

The relationship between the composition and the raga
6. Discovering Indian Rhythm — Taal
Enter the world of Indian rhythmic cycles through practical exercises.
Participants will learn:

The basic concept of Taal

How rhythmic cycles are structured
-
How to recognise and maintain tempo
-
Simple rhythmic patterns
-
How melody sits within a rhythmic cycle
7. Singing with Pakhawaj
Experience the powerful dialogue between Dhrupad voice and Pakhawaj.
With Dnyaneshwar Deshmukh, participants will experience:

Keeping a steady rhythmic cycle while singing
-
Listening to percussion while maintaining melody
-
Singing a composition with live Pakhawaj accompaniment
-
Understanding the interaction between vocalist and percussionist
-
Experiencing rhythm as something felt physically, rather than simply counted
ABOUT THE ARTIS
Dhani Gundecha is a senior disciple of the Gundecha Brothers and a promising Dhrupad vocalist. She has performed at esteemed platforms like Saptak Sankalp Saptah (Ahmedabad) and Tansen Samaroh (Gwalior), and frequently collaborates with vocalists, instrumentalists, and artists across theatre and other media.
She has helped many students and enthusiasts overcome vocal challenges and refine their practice of Indian classical music. She currently serves as Chairperson of Dhrupad Sansthan Nyas, a premier institute for Dhrupad music in Bhopal.

- For special class, workshop and night event, Children under the age of 10 are not permitted to join , there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule. Children ages 10-15 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or sibling that is over 18
Refund Policy:
If you are unable to attend this event, you are eligible for a full refund of the ticket price if you contact us at least 24 hours in advance of the published start time. Contact must be made via email to [email protected] or in person at The Yoga Barn reception desk. We are NOT able to process refunds for any reason if you contact us less than 24 hours prior to the published start time. We do not cover reimbursement of any associated booking fees that exceed our published ticket price.
Ticket Transfer:
Tickets are not transferrable to another person. The booking is only valid for the person whose name is printed on this ticket.
Late Arrival:
We recommend that you arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time. If you arrive after the published start time, you may be denied access and your booking will not be refunded.
Cancellation Policy:
If this event is canceled by The Yoga Barn prior to the start time, you are eligible for a refund of your ticket. We do not cover reimbursement of any associated booking fees that exceed our published ticket price. Please be aware that refunds may take up to 30 days.
