History has a habit of pretending it was inevitable. The ships arrive, the maps get redrawn, the languages of accounting replace the languages of the sea, and centuries later we're told this was simply how it had to go.
UNCONQUERED: THE LONG AFTER refuses the premise. This is a sound series set in a parallel Nusantara, an archipelago that was never conquered, never partitioned, never made into a warehouse for someone else's empire. Not a frozen paradise, not a museum of tradition, but a living civilization that kept moving: gamelan logic meeting its own electronics, court musics mutating into street musics, maritime trade routes carrying rhythms instead of resource concessions. Five hundred years of uninterrupted becoming.
What would that sound like? Nobody knows. That's the point. Each artist in this series answers as a transmission from the long after — the deep future of a timeline we were denied.
THE LONG AFTER is the second chapter of the UNCONQUERED series, and this edition brings four transmissions:
SIPANINGKAH
BJNK
MAJIDALSKA
DENNY RANGIPANG
Expect live electronics, ancestral frequencies without ancestor worship, rhythm systems that never had to justify themselves to a colonial ear. Expect it to be unfinished — imagined worlds always are.
As always at 97KoboLab: this is a self-organized, non-profit space. Entry is by donation — give what you can, everything goes back into keeping the room running and the artists paid. Register via the ticket link, come early, stay curious.
The archipelago that never happened is still audible, if you listen sideways.
