WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE & LEARN

This immersive three-day journey into Dhrupad brings together breath, voice, resonance, pitch, melody, rhythm and listening. Through a combination of traditional Dhrupad practices and guided vocal exercises, participants will develop greater freedom, strength and awareness in their voice.

  • Awaken the Voice Through Breath

Explore the intimate relationship between breath, resonance and vocal expression. Learn practices that help release unnecessary tension and bring greater awareness and depth to the voice.

  • Develop Vocal Fluidity & Strength

Work with traditional Dhrupad vocal techniques to develop greater flexibility, continuity and control in the voice. Strengthen the voice and learn to move smoothly through different registers while maintaining stability and resonance.

  • Build Vocal Sustenance

Learn how to sustain sound with greater ease and control. Develop breath management and vocal support to hold notes and phrases for longer periods without unnecessary strain.

  • Discover the Nuances of Sur

Cultivate pitch sensitivity, inner listening and tonal awareness through sustained notes and interaction with the Tanpura’s continuous drone. Develop a deeper sense of Sur—not simply as pitch, but as a felt relationship with sound.

  • Enter the World of Raga Music

Discover the architecture and personality of a Dhrupad raga. Explore its mood, melodic character and unique language through selected evening ragas and guided vocal practice.

  • Learn Traditional Dhrupad Compositions

Explore devotional Dhrupad compositions and experience how poetry, devotion, melody and voice come together in song.

  • Explore Improvisation

Learn the foundations of Dhrupad improvisation and develop the confidence to move freely within a raga through simple, guided improvisational practices.

  • Sing with Rhythm & Percussion

Understand the fundamentals of Dhrupad tala and experience the relationship between melody and rhythm through the Pakhawaj.

Learn to maintain melodic flow while responding to rhythmic cycles, accents and the powerful presence of percussion.

  • Develop Musical Concentration

Strengthen attention, memory, listening and presence through practices that require deep concentration and sensitivity to the unfolding of sound.

  • Experience Sound as a Contemplative Practice

Discover the relationship between silence, sustained sound, vibration and inner stillness. Experience singing not only as a musical practice, but also as a way of becoming more deeply present.
