Kitesurfing in Sanur
We teach at Mertasari beach in Sanur, also known as kite beach.
Let’s chase the wind!
Kite Surfing Intro
During this lesson you'll learn the basics of kitesurfing. We start with flying a training kite on the beach. This is a smaller kite, and you'll learn to control the kite. You'll learn to steer left and right, find the power zone and create figure 8 motions, which you'll be using in the water to generate more pull. You'll be looking up at your kite a lot, so wear sunglasses and expect some strain on your neck.
Next we'll take the boat out at sea for downwind body dragging. Your goal is to feel the traction of the kite with your body, without the board. You'll start moving the kite gently left and right, letting it pull you downwind, steering yourself by doing so. Just keep the kite in the sky, and get a better understanding and feel of kite control and kite pull. The instructor will get into the water with you to keep you safe. Other students have told me they felt like a dolphin above the water, or a superman in the water.
Once you reach a sufficient level on your bodydrag, we'll add the board and move onto the waterstart. In a way it's easier, because the board gives you buoyancy. But it can be challenging to pair the kite above and the board below. If you don't have any board riding experience, we recommend adding one or two lessons of wakeboarding.
Only one student per instructor.
Intermediate Kite Surfing Lesson
This is is a one on one kite surf lesson in the water, where we'll focus on additional skills to get you towards kitesurfing independently. It takes most of our students 6 to 12 lessons before they can ride independently. Together with your instructor, you'll decide what to focus on for your one hour lesson.
Some options include:
- waterstart
- riding upwind
- riding left and right
- upwind bodydragging for board retrieval
- edging the board
- transitions
Supervised Kite Surfing & Coaching
You can already ride upwind and downwind independently and retrieve your own board, but you want to improve your kite flying skills. Maybe you want to learn how to bring in the kite to the beach yourself, fly smaller, more aggressive kites, ride a smaller board, kitesurf on waves, ride toeside, or learn to jump. You'll decide the focus of your one hour lesson, together with your instructor. We'll stay close to you in the boat to help you when you need it, but a little more hands off than an intermediate class.
This option is great to build up your confidence or to get back into kitesurfing if you haven't kite surfed in a while.
Want to use your own gear? We'll give you a Rp. 200,000 discount.
