Coming Home to the Body: Somatic Experiencing® for Altered States, Trauma & Spiritual Integration

01:00pm, Thu 24th Sep 2026 - 05:00pm, Thu 24th Sep 2026

Some of our most profound experiences can make us feel deeply connected to other realms and somewhat disconnected from our bodies, e.g. Near-death experiences, altered states, psychedelic journeys, anaesthetic during surgery, dream states, and kundalini awakenings. Sometimes the body can feel as though it has been left with one foot stuck in the expansive realms, and one foot in contraction on the earth, moving between altered highs, and bodily sensations of discomfort or even terror.

Without integration, these experiences can leave us dysregulated, ungrounded, or continuously reaching for the transcendent states that we once experienced, quietly distancing us from what still lives unmet in our nervous system.

This four-hour workshop offers a grounded, somatic approach to understanding and beginning to work with these altered and non-ordinary states, so that you can feel alive and free from within your own body. Through the lens of Somatic Experiencing, energy therapy and spiritual practice, which Jaya has been practicing for 18 + years, we will explore trauma as a gateway to embodying these vast experiences.

What participants will experience:

  • Understanding how altered states, near-death to spiritual openings, can get stuck in the nervous system and body

  • The difference between somatic trauma integration and subconsciously bypassing traumatic content

  • Somatic tracking skills: building the capacity to feel intense experience without fleeing, numbing or overriding

  • Nervous system regulation and how to work with involuntary altered states (dissociation, etc.) arising from trauma

  • Working with voluntary dream and spiritual states through the body

  • Trauma as a doorway to embodied connection with altered and/or spiritual states

What to bring:

  • A journal if desired
  • A water bottle
  • Anything you like to feel grounded

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Jaya Hollohan, MA, SEP is a Master Somatic Therapist and Nervous System Specialist, with 18+ years of practice, and over 10,000+ client sessions. Trained directly under Peter Levine PhD, the founder of Somatic Experiencing, she brings a deep, body first understanding of how trauma and profound experience live in the nervous system, breath, and tissues.

Her work weaves together somatic trauma integration, including altered states, drawing on years of exploring near-death experiences, psychedelic and anaesthetic states, dreams, and spirituality through the lens of the body. Before somatic work, she taught yoga for a decade and worked in poverty reduction for the Canadian federal Government, experiences that shaped her belief that healing is both deeply personal and profoundly human. Jaya believes trauma is not something to rise above but a doorway to enter into a more embodied, connected, free and alive way of being.
