Come As You Are: A Beginning Meditation Workshop

10:00am, Tue 27th Oct 2026 - 01:00pm, Tue 27th Oct 2026

Come as you are. This extended 3-hour workshop is here to help, whether you've never sat down to meditate before or you've tried and struggled to keep it up. We'll go deeper than a shorter class allows.

We'll start by grounding into why you're here and exploring the many reasons people come to meditation in the first place, whether that's relaxation, emotional support, physical wellbeing, or something harder to name.

From there we'll spend real time on discomfort. Meditation isn't always calm or pleasant, and pretending otherwise sets people up to quit the moment things get difficult. We'll talk plainly about the different kinds of discomfort you might run into, physical, emotional, or the restlessness of a busy mind, and how to work with each one rather than avoiding it.

We'll also spend time learning to watch the mind itself. You'll practice noticing when your attention has drifted into a thought, and gently returning to your breath. This is the real work of meditation: not stopping thought, but building the capacity to notice and come back, again and again.

Alongside this we'll cover the key principles that make a practice sustainable: awareness, focus, non-attachment, patience, posture, and breath. You'll learn how to start where you are, whether that's three minutes or ten, and how to build a daily practice that actually holds up in your life.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have real experience sitting with discomfort, a practical technique for returning to the present when your mind wanders, and the confidence to build a practice of your own. Come as you are, and let's build something that actually holds up in real life.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Jana has been a teacher, healer, and counselor for over 20 years, offering workshops, classes, meditation, and healing work since 2005. She is certified and trained as a psychospiritual counselor across psychology, metaphysics, and the wisdom traditions.

Jana follows a path called Swatantra, which weaves the ancient knowledge of the Rishis and Seers with an individual's karma, lineage, and personality, guiding them toward their own path to freedom and self-realization. She believes spirituality cannot be taught, since it is inherently personal, but she also believes deeply in the value of guidance, support, and encouragement along the way. For Jana, life itself is the spiritual path.

Since 2012, Jana has lived between Bali and India, deepening her practice through years of self-inquiry, study, and considerable time spent at the feet of her teachers. She's grateful to call the Yoga Barn home for sharing this work.
