All About Anxi Tie Guan Yin

Deepen your understanding and appreciation of Anxi Tie Guan Yin through guided tasting, history, terroir, and processing exploration🍃

_____

Join us for an in-depth exploration of one of China’s most celebrated and influential oolong traditions.

Anxi Tie Guan Yin (安溪铁观音), commonly known in English as Iron Goddess of Mercy Oolong, originates from the mountainous county of Anxi in southern Fujian Province. Revered for centuries, Tie Guan Yin occupies a unique place in Chinese tea culture, renowned for its captivating floral fragrance, elegant texture, and remarkable ability to express both terroir and craftsmanship.

Unlike many teas defined solely by a processing style, Tie Guan Yin represents the convergence of a specific cultivar, traditional artisanal methods, and the distinct environments in which it is grown. Over generations, producers in Anxi have developed diverse expressions of this tea—from the traditional roasted styles of the past to the vibrant, green modern styles that have become internationally famous.

In this workshop, we will explore the history, cultivation, and processing methods that have shaped Anxi Tie Guan Yin, while examining how factors such as elevation, soil, season, oxidation, and roasting influence its aromatic and textural character. Through guided tastings, you will discover the extraordinary range that exists within this iconic tea tradition and gain a deeper understanding of what makes truly exceptional Tie Guan Yin.
